It all depends on how you want to play and which server you’re playing on.

Do you want to be a competitive fighter? Well, you need upgrades, and some people here have them at level 20+

The good news that even with level 16 upgrades**, you’re still better than **90% of the server

Do you want to be Bob the Builder and not become a farm for other players? Sure! Keep your loot in one city, have level 55 walls, 30k troops there, plus 3 Colossus, and no one will ever come to farm you. 😂

So it’s not all black and white. There are alternatives.

First things first, you need **6 carriers** in the Navy. for bombing.
And if you face an opponent like me, with the ultimate submarines in defence, while your carriers have only **14 damage**, good luck with that. 😂

Also, good luck if your carriers have low defence upgrades while my paddle boats are **7 levels higher**.

The only thing that could save you would be my rockets. But if you find them, they’re basically one-shot anyway.

But guess what… again… **which ships attack first? The paddle boats.** 😏

If I kill your carriers first, you’ll have less damage output against me, which means **fewer casualties for me**, even when the rocket ships come into play.

A lot of things have changed in the game now. **This guide isn’t accurate anymore.**

The same issue has happened to us numerous times. I am not sure if the bug has been fixed.

We had a big discussion about subs with some of the top fighters and remember they are defensive and not offensive. With the right amount of proper upgrades They can work very well and especially against waves. It's too complicated to explain it all here but when waved in a big battle they can be very effective.

Play on smaller battlefields. I’ve realised that fighting on smaller battlefields, actually reduces/removes the advantage of upgrades

I have strong army upgrades, so trust me I wouldn’t farm someone with 80k generals with troops. The mindset should always be to gain more, not to lose.

Unless you’re just chasing attacking points, most players rely heavily on their navy anyway.

Who is realistically going to attack you when you have 15k hoplites, 13k swordsmen, 7k gyrocopters, etc.? That’s just crazy.

Step 2: Now buy 10-20 bil total donation accounts from Black Market to pump those islands to 6X/5X

And you can still be competitive with 20 paddle speed boat upgrades. There are diminishing returns.

The game also has a store and you can do all of that by purchasing from the in game store. I already went in depth how spending $1600 can get you 2 months of crystal.

While they do need to make it so upgrades contribute to the TS, once they do if you run into an account like that on a server that you don't like? You can likely pay for a transfer or graveyard to play on a different server. There's not enough of those accounts or players that ever server has someone like that on them.

The game is pay to win. It has a store. Someone likely has more money than you anyways.

There are ways to get that loot for free without breaking any rules it just requires good teamwork with your teammates and being active in farming.

But yes, if you’re referring to an average player who doesn’t use Ambrosia at all and, most importantly, doesn’t use traders, only has one account, and doesn’t farm, then it’s impossible to keep up with the upgrades, despite if has many cities in crystal.

But guess what not everyone has top upgrades. It’s only a few players. And if you want to protect your loot from them, just keep around 30–50k troops. No one will attack you if you have that many; it’s basically a suicide mission.

It’s not all black and white, and Ikariam isn’t purely pay-to-win. You just have to be creative

Oh they work. For carriers upgrade defence and for speeds offence. I think we waved over 700 rockets one night when the enemy was sleeping.

For land battles upgrade levels are different for every troop if more then one is fighting and i cant find the list i had made But i have an older one you can use for a guide.

Ohhh, it was you (the crow)back in May, if I remember correctly, you were advising people to upgrade speedboats and mortals in defence because your allies said it was right. Man, I’ve spent so much crystal for nothing.

Anyway, it’s my fault for listening. Then common sense kicked in and I stopped before wasting millions more.

Sending bombs to players where the third line has defence, while your carriers aren’t properly upgraded don’t expect to see many casualties.

Sometimes depends the level of the enemy balloons you may see 35 missing as you might have 1 balloon casualtie

HOW YOU CAN CHECK if your BOMBS were effective from the def points of the enemy and your attacking points and sometimes if you have 1 balloon casualtie thats a good indication

OBVIOUSLY dont send 30 speedboat with 1 ram..they will die ...maybe that the only reason foe someone to upgrade the speedboat in def..silly if you ask me

Upgrades matter, but having the right ones matters even more.

You can still be a supreme fighter with the right upgrades just make sure to invest in the expensive ones that actually make a difference.

That’s what I say to my allies: focus on the key upgrades that may cost more, rather than the cheaper ones that don’t really make any difference in generals.

You will always find other players; there is always someone better than you.

I love the changes they’ve made with the military bank account, and I also like the upgrades. However, I have to say that since the upgrades, I don’t want to fight unnecessary battles unless the enemy has loot.

The upgrades have made me start counting every bit of loot, haha.

Just adapt, the word is changing the society is changing, nothing stays the same

I used to wave my main fleet every 8 rounds and I was sending flames and sometimes carriers in every round

Now this wave doesnt work anymore

Basically the upgrades helps you wave way less.

We have to adapt..And gameforge has to be more effience on their updates
