Ocean Towers building suggestion

  • I know people have had ideas for "sea walls" before and the ideas were struck down due to designs.


    I do think we should have some sort of coastal defense system, advanced ancient civilizations had towers and walls for defenses.



    The suggestion I have is to give us tower defenses that we can build on land next to the ocean.




    We can build 8 individual towers along this wall. Max level of 48. Damage, accuracy, munition amounts, garrison size, armor and hit points scale with levels.


    Levels 1-15: Towers have Catapults.

    Levels 16-32: Towers have Ballista's.

    Levels 33-48: Towers have Mortars.


    Towers can be attacked by ranged ships only. Once towers run out of munitions the town owner loses the battle.

  • I'd merge this into the existing wall and expand that structure. At present, the town view shows one small wall section, where as the battle view has 7. Expand this to encompass the whole town, with several coastal sections and have it defend both land and sea.


    If we really wanted to get fancy, add the capacity to allow ranged units and artillery to man the walls. Historically, ( I know , this is not a true historically accurate game) archers would not have sat on the ground behind a town wall waiting for it to get demolished. They would have been swarming the ramparts and firing down at the incoming attackers. Have the option to install a number of your trained units and eliminate the inbuilt wall 'attack' capability. Keep the hitpoints and armour aspects, though personally, I'd like to see those a bit higher to reflect the massive investment in high level walls, and have the attack capacity be due to only the ranged units you have installed in the wall. I'd further suggest that units on the wall have an extended range due to their height. Perhaps increasing at set points as the wall level increases

  • I agree very much to this idea.


    Would be very cool to also defend the sea. Not just land by walls.


    And maybe towers could aid in defending land battles also. Not just navy battle.

  • How is this supposed to work in a normal fight, especially curious since you mention 8 Towers instead of 7.


    Not sure about the advantages of that idea in general, it would prolly make pillaging inactive Players even more annoying if you want to attack from another Island, or better said, wouldn't it be straight up impossible since you can't block the Harbour?


    Obv. it would be a nice idea visually, but not sure about the actual benefits.

    Also it's not like defenders rly need even more advantages against attackers so far ;)

    Same as the town wall, destroy the towers and block the port.


    Defenders need the advantage more than the attacker.

  • Ok here is an idea to help people here.


    Ikariam is a game that is not really driven by logic and history. However somtime it is. In acient / classical greece, there werent any robots (Steam giants), mortars, fireships, rocket ships, submarines and airplanes... However it is all present here in the game.


    And also those people who are playing outside, with these colorfull beach ball, parasol and these red swimming floating things did not exist in that age either.

    (I am talking about this scene here)


    So. What do i want with this intro?


    Fist of all, I think, that this water defence wall / tower could be like this:


    It could be some towers, that are built in the water and takes place as the first line of defense. Once some towers are destroyed, then ships from either the heavy or light class, will fill the empty space.


    If we are talking about a level 15+ battlefield, there should be 7 towers taking the first line of defence. (Marked in the red cirkel)!


    These towers could be something like this:


    I mean 7 of these, if you have a level 15+ battelfield (Just like the town wall), that acts as first line of defence. Once these are destroyed, then ships will fill the empty gab. These towers Should be upgraded like townwall and gets stronger and better with each upgrade. Causing more and more damage and takes longer and longer to be destroyed. The enemy should use first strike ships to cause tremendous amount of damage to these towers.


    Now how are the game gonna build these you ask? Well since we just have established from the start, that this game is not driven by logic and history, then i think that in order to build these towers, players have to research somthing that is close to futur research.


    After resarching robotics, offshore base and pressure chamber or perhaps these should be a requirement, you decide.


    Then it should be like this: Small submarines with robotic arms building these towers, one by one from the buttom to the surface of the water to create a stable foundation. On top of that, these tower should also have floating devices like the offshore base, beach ball etc. to help them stand up


    The technology and possibility is allready there. One has just to combine it to make it work.

    The only down side of this sub suggestion to the original one, i came up with, is that you have to research allot to get it. Which means only big players can have it.


    Secondly, i think that these walls should be manually repaired. How long it takes and how much resources to fix these walls, could be everything from 1 to 10% of its current level. So players dont spend 20K buildingmaterials and 5 hours to fix the water wall.


    But maybe 500 building material and 5 minutes.


    This is just an idea, to help here. If it makes better sense to build towers on the land as the original suggestion, then ok.
