I'm like you. I bought 48, left myself about 300m gold for goods purchasing. May add ships when trading profits pick up. But I may be being too cautious.
I did bought the ambro ships straight away and spend a couple off 100's millions to purchase some regular ships... still a lot to go in the next few years 
More updates to come. Who knows what else gold could be used for. Would hate to spend it now only to find out later there's yet another use. I did get some cargos here and there, but nothing crazy. Kinda taking the same approach with the new building spots also.

If GF team decides to decrease the price for trading ships, fair would be to reimburse the already bought ships, for the players who already bought them at higher costs.
I am currently on 200 ships and each next one is very expensive, in the next 3.4 months I plan to raise it to 230, maybe even 240 and I think it will be enough then. Because that figure meets the needs of my account for now. We'll see how things go in the future and when I need more than that, but my opinion is that GF will not reduce the cost of the ships. I wonder how many ships you have at the moment?
I recall mention of a long ago discount on the Phoenician ships, that would be nice to happen again.
I dropped my gold reserves to 100M and brought a few ships.
Did similar with ambrosia: have the fountain running - the best use of Ambro for a frugal fool like me - and try to work up to the renewal cost each year before spending. ( Those 80% discounts have been quite tempting though) So I have a buffer of 999 and I am buying ships as I get the funds. Going to take a few years! Don't want to go all out yet. As mentioned, there are potentially new items coming.
But I can't imagine more ships never not being useful.

Pretože toto číslo zatiaľ zodpovedá potrebám môjho účtu. Uvidíme, ako to pôjde v budúcnosti a keď budem potrebovať viac, ale môj názor je, že GF nezníži náklady na lode. Zaujímalo by ma, koľko lodí máte v súčasnosti?

Icarus-9414 Unbelievable how much gold is needed. Thanks for the info, I haven't asked much about ships since the update came out because I haven't needed much. I'm now in the process of building the twelfth city, and it's not like everything can't be finished in a couple of months with 180 ships. But when all that is over and when I have all twelve cities in a few months, the next problem arises, then it will definitely need a large number of ships, since the residences require a huge amount of resources.

I left about 600M because I believe in some building like a bank or so. And I don't need 30 more ships so bad...
Can I ask about that fountain if it was mentioned? Do you have to click for the ambrosia everyday or I will get it straight after login automatically?
I never have the fountain even that I am online every day, because I will forget about clicking on the fountain.

exactly the reason why i just do the fountain for 1 year and than quit. now i have to go in vmode when i'm on a holiday and want to stay alive during that period by simple login and logout. on my phone it's hardly possible to navigate trough the screen...

On login there is no problem. But open the building? I will get like 50 ambrosia per year.

It is quite easy. Not good but not too hard either.
You have to open something or move through the icons on the sides of the screens. The easiest way is to open some building, minimaze the screen to see all of the town and then click on what you want. 
I do it sometimes. But yes, it is not as easy as it should be.

Its netted me almost 8700 ambrosia for 4 years running costs of 3996(999x4) which is a profit of 4700 ( missed a few collections, so this is a little lower than the max possible)

I'm confused how you got those numbers? Are the rewards different on different servers? On mine you get 31 Ambrosia for 1-9 days. And if I calculated each 1-9 day intervall for 4 years I'd get (31*40*4 =4960+(4+16)=) 5024 Ambrosia*. Still a nice bonus but nowhere near the 8700 you say you got.
