pirates: change to the game system

  • If a player launches a pirate raid against me and has more crew strength than I do, they win and take my predator points; but if I win, nothing happens to them… they suffer no losses.

My suggestion is that a form of equivalent loss be introduced for those who attack and lose… for example:

if someone attacks me with 2,000 crew strength points and loses, their 2,000 points should be transferred to me

    or

if someone attacks me and loses, their predator points should be transferred to me, or at least a number equal to the total predator points they were trying to take from me

    or both...

    :?:8)

    to you ...

  • That would be equivalent to saying if someone launches a pillage mission against you and lose, you should loot their resources, even though they are in their warehouses and you did not visit their cities.

Prize of a successful attack are capture points.

Prize of a successful defense is retention of those points.

Those who initiate and those who sit back should not be entitled to same reward.

  • It's not exactly the same thing.

Because we all know very well that anyone who ranks in the reward zone does so because they're getting help from friends or allies.

And anyone who doesn't have them—or who doesn't want to risk getting banned for unfair play—simply can't compete.

In my opinion, this change could rebalance the pirate game and encourage people to participate...

The pirate game is a specific and very limited feature of the much broader game that is Ikariam, where raids are just one of many game features.

I don't think it's accurate to compare resource raids with pirate point raids....

  • Fairness of the piracy and its practical reality (as in how people actually win) is a different subject.

Your proposal would not really fix that. You will still be a non-significant factor to those who farm points off their friends or whatever, their crews will still be hard to beat.

The problem with your concept IMO is that it offensively rewards someone who is defensive and that should not be the case.

You win if you initiate aka attack and that is the only way it makes sense.

  • Knowing that you might lose something during your attacks, I reckon many people would be more careful about how they move… and this could encourage new players to join, even those who aren’t part of an organised group

Losing crew would make far more sense than being rewarded with points while playing the defensive side.

That will also force your attacker into spending points, so losing them in some sense, because if they lost a battle and their crew got weaker, they will have to spend their points and rebuild the crew.

Your comment is exactly the best justification for my suggestion.

Today, those who attack have nothing to lose...

If the suggestion were implemented, that would no longer be the case... and the overwhelming power of some players might diminish, to the benefit of other, smaller players...

  • Not really though. Your suggestion is too rewarding for defender; my counter simply adds cost to the attacker without overrewarding a defender.
