General Bank change (48h CD after vmode/transfer)

  • As mentioned on Discord, the General Bank change is now live. If a general bank comes out of vmode, the Black Market is disabled for 48h. Also, if an account transfers, the general bank is disabled for 48h.

While I know many people have been looking forward to this change, I was disappointed they didn't give us a warning about it so people could prepare. Either way, this will be a new phase for Ikariam.

The crow  Killjoy you both got your wish, let's see how it plays out.

  • I imagine there was no notice in order to prevent those that exploit military banks taking counter measures. Good decision IMHO.

Glad to see some action on this at last

    .

  • What Walking Dead said seems to be the case, glad they did it this way. They should make it even longer (the timer to sell generals after coming out of vmode). We´ve seen GF implementing long term changes the past couple of months, this goes with the narrative that they want us to lvl up the accounts and that bigger accounts have better ways of producing generals and fighting assuming they also have better upgrades. Only sad it took them this long.

  • While it is rough for those of us who heard "if you don't make them, you are just playing wrong" and suffered those that did make them until we did. The endless workshop upgrades are all the magnifying glass the big players need to burn ants without competition anyway.

  • This is a good example of why advanced notice would have been a bad idea. This account would probably had a massive gold injection had there been advanced warning. However it is now useless, that gold will go within half an hour of coming out of vmode.

While I do see your point, sweeping changes like this should give the player base time to adapt instead of pulling the rug out from under them.

I've never had a problem with general banks, though. At worst, they're creative use of game mechanics assuming it's not an illegal multi.

Either way, it's unfortunate to see an alliance's hard work simply vanish (again, assuming no illegal multis).

General banks are still viable, too, they'll simply be smaller, and likely have more of the cost reduction researches, but we'll see what happens.

If injecting gold fixes anything, it is still easily done so it doesn't seem to effect this, just stay in vmode and prepare the gold. (afterthought, if the trading post is able to transfer enough?) It just becomes less possible to spread the resources out to others to fire them and downsize the banks. That stuff is pretty expensive on a build server.

Certainly not the end of the world. Just bringing up points about it to talk about.

It'll be limited to the loading speed of the docks because what'll happen is account comes out of vmode, if no res is present, res has to be shipped to the town, which is then immediately sold on the trading post and purchased.

It's unlikely that that specific bank has enough to counter the burn rate, but it'll be interesting to see what happens.

Most of the general banks I've seen had around 1b gold.

It'll be interesting to see what happens to accounts like these:

If I had to guess, I wouldn't be surprised to see more specialized general banks with all cities on wine islands that have max military and seafaring futures to offset the gold burn.

  • I was disappointed they didn't give us a warning about it so people could prepare

Prepare for what? Dishonesty? Not giving a warning was the right thing to do.

They should make it even longer (the timer to sell generals after coming out of vmode).

Totally agree. I was in favor of increasing the cooldown time to 7 days because it is the average time a player needs to train lots of troops. However, given the energy and time we had to spend to get where we are now, I have nothing to complain.

Even though there are many things to improve in this game, I'm happy to know they thought - even for selfish motives - about us and decided to apply this rule. Because they are always thinking about ROI, the number of big banks will diminish and the game will be a little more playable. That's a good ROI to me.

you both got your wish, let's see how it plays out

If you read that thread, you'll see I never said that. However, you forgot to mention the other 17 members who also posted, and many others who were reading and supporting the idea for years. Anyway, this is a small step towards a big goal. Let's hope everything works out in the end for all of us.

Hard work?? Really? Hard work would be selling goods at the trading post everyday and cut production to save gold.

Training a bunch of spearmen and selling at maximum price is not hard work lol

I know you think 24m generals simply falls out of the sky, but the reality is that it was likely an alliance wide effort to build 24m generals, coordinate with the bank, and sell them to the bank.

This change does nothing to stop selling spears at max price, either.

  • What dishonesty? General banks are built by alliance members building troops and then coordinating the sale of troops to a centralized location during times of peace to prepare for times of war.

Personally, I feel that whenever a major rule change is going to happen, it should be announced, in advance, to allow the player base to adapt to the rule instead of surprise, the rule changed.

Here's a post of you supporting the change: Not fun

  • I think you are being a bit naïve, many of these massive banks are purchased from users in countries where Ambro is dirt cheap.

They're not. I specifically joined a guild and watched (and contributed) to how a general bank was being built because I wanted to see how it's done. The alliances that I joined worked together, build the troops and coordinated the sale to the general bank during peace time.

  • In some cases, I'm talking about accounts like I highlighted. A few million military banks are a piece of cake to build up, I'm talking about massive accounts

And I'm not? IIRC, the 150+ member alliance was able to build one up to ~30+m. What happened is we produced, the people close to the bank bought from us, then coordinated with the bank for a quick sale.

and you can still do that. take a part a few minor changes you can keep doing that, you just gotta wait the 48h cooldown before selling.

Oh, I'm aware. My complaint isn't about the 48h cd or whatever. That's fine. I just wish that they announced the change formally in advance. That's all.

My other complaint was that everyone who assumes there's a large general bank got it because of cheating and every time I've seen one, it's been the result of a large alliance's coordinated effort.

It does make sense they'd make the change before the hydra event, too.

  • i mean there isnt only 1 truth, as all the military banks youve seen were built by people, others have also seen banks built/bought via cheating. Now the changes are already in play and all we gotta do is adapt.

  • Every time someone has accused someone of cheating here, I've asked for better proof, and I've never gotten it which is why I'm so skeptical. It's almost always a situation where someone else beat them and they wanted to complain that they lost.

For example, this is what I've asked for every time someone accuses someone of cheating: Bank accounts and high number of generals

Just 2 screenshots, with the in game time, showing the before/after generals, then taking the time to go to the trader high score and at least trying to deduce who they traded with and whether it was a guild mate or not.
