Terrestrial balloons worthless with the new upgrade system

  • Sorry, but isn't this exactly what User said?

The problem with useless people saying useless things is that those useless things tend to spread.

When gyrocopters (player 1) are deployed against balloons and gyrocopters (player 2), the exchange is always favorable to the gyrocopters (player 1), except in the specific case where balloons actually manage to hit enemy mortars or catapults.

For that to happen, gyrocopters must not shoot down all balloons before they fire. If this becomes structurally impossible, then fielding balloons becomes pointless.

And upgrades clearly favor gyrocopters' attack over balloons' defense.

  • To be fair, I didn't say it, the wiki said it.

But what Barbarossa is saying is that you should send extra gyros instead of balloons if your surviving balloons have nothing to attack or all die.

For example, if your opponent has 60 gyros and 30 balloons and you only send 60 gyros, your opponent will win because you will attack their balloons first, but each round their gyros will wear down your gyros.

By sending 400 gyros to 150 balloons and 120 gyros, the 400 gyros will take heavy losses, but will eventually win, and the balloons, having nothing to attack, are just extra losses.

Therefore, assuming if you send balloons, but your balloons either don't survive or have nothing to attack, it's more efficient to send extra gyros.

Of course, all of this depends on the opponent being offline. If the opponent comes online and sees he's outnumbered, then it's pop colossus (or hades if they want to farm their opponent for marble).

  • Also, this should be true if there's every a 5 level difference between attack and defense.

If we look at the cost tables

As you can see upgrading gyro attack 18 is 3x the cost of balloon armor 13, this seems to be working as intended.

  • It appears that the balloons need to have the armor at least 2 levels behind gyro attack, in order to survive, and they barely survive.

So, L22 off gyro is 15.85M crystal while L20 def balloon is 17.1M crystal.

So, yeah, seems about "right" to pay way more to have equal forces....

To have quite real eaual forces, the balloon need to be actually 2 level above gyro attack, so we are comparing 15.8M or crystal just in one level invested with 44.4M.

So, that 3x you just mentioned is actually the opposite way!

  • It's never about equality, but survival.

If you're asking what the purpose of the change is, it's likely to force combat to be gyro versus gyro, and only bring in balloons once the skies are clear, instead of just send it and forget it.
