Infinite Horizons Workshop Feedback (Low Level Players will be severely disadvantaged in combat)

  • It is interesting that the GF does not want to add things that the community is looking for years.

And when thes finally decide to meet the requirements of the community they offer a solution that absolutely no one demanded...

I think it's a bit unfair to say that. If someone had said that a few years ago, I would have agreed, but recently there have been several changes that the community has been asking for for years.

-Levels of buildings increased after 15 years

    -Shrine for more resources

    -Freighters for transportations

    -rearrange buildings

    -Town Order

    -Shop items with stack sizes

  • Honestly, it's not going to make that much of a difference. Ogame has had W/S/A for years.

The reality is, even at 10x score, he'd likely have +3/+3 upgrades on you which is relatively minor.

It's only problematic if you simply don't upgrade at all.

I personally like looking at a CR knowing both players (assuming they both have forge) on a equal footing.
Sometimes the magin between winner and loser is very small on the CR.. if one is handicapped even al little that's going to change who CR's need to be evaluated.

simply by spitballing changes i reckon waving is going to change. Steams to hops will get replaced with steams.. or even funnier steams to steams. Your half fire half steam rams will probably be just steam rams. Spartans are on their steroid cycles. Ballons will get popped more easier, both land and sea. Mortors you can't put in a small amount accomanied by rams, they will die instantly. If i spend time i could preach a sermon. Im not saying combat would be ruined, im simply saying it will most certainly change.. and probably not favour skill

I've only ever ran into 1 player that ACTIVELY used Spartans for their front line.

And didn't even care if I had higher losses fighting them, every round that reported more spartan deaths my pants got a little bit tighter thinking how that fool paid "money" for them.

  • I didn't mean that way...

My post refers to this new update.

General military segment of the game is something that the community wants to improve for years, and of all (more or less creative) proposal GF decides to make a solution that no one has asked for and who probably will not like at least 50% of the community :/

  • That means that the 5 million player will pay Ambrosia for 1 round of upgrade.

I do not think, it would exist a button to make all upgrades at once.

But every upgrade, will have a button for paying.

The ones who are paying will stay in game.

The ones who are not paying a single cent (like me), will abandon the game for good.

It's the same policy as other games. Some others require also a reccuring subscription to keep playing.

Sub based games use to be just that you paid a sub and there was no micro transactions everyone earned their way and the field was level.

Problem is micro-transactions came into existence, at first it was a new breed of "free to play" games that used it as their primary funding method (this is game is an example)

But this quickly had a counter part.. "Pay 2 Win" and some games that started out with a relatively benign MT's such as skins and other social content that didn't matter.. devolved into p2w where it quickly becomes apparent you need to spend to stay competitive or advance in the game.

worse yet was some sub games that ended up adding MT's to them.

I would say Ikariam has "mostly" avoided p2w.. although the premium trader is incredibly strong.when used strategically, It still won't necessarily win you battles which is where, although the troop packs might, and resource packs could help the wallet warrior recover faster.

But i'd still say GF has done a decent job of not making MT's TOO powerful.. town warps are probably the most powerful thing in the game from a warfare standpoint but they're also expensive, so we see them, but not used carelessly except by the whales.

I personally like Sub based games with no MT's, but few of those still exist, which is why the gaming industry has turned cancerous.

Ikariam is not a game that could ever support a sub though, the number of people who would pay monthly to play Ikariam is so small it would quickly collapse because there wouldn't be enough players.. people would get bored quickly and quit.

free players are sometimes looked as leeches or freeloaders but the truth is without them filling out the game the paying players won't stay either.

They are already strong. It took me personally a few weeks to cut down around 30k spartans with a semi-active defender. If the defender is competent its almost an immovable force, only weakness is attrition. Im not against spartans being stronger, im simply saying this update will weaken the rest of the units which in turn makes them stronger. The only annoying thing is battle reports are based off destroyed military generals, which if we go further is the amount of resources it takes to build the units - compiled into a point score. When you mess with numbers, the reports will look proper funky dunky. Although i don't play for report % personally

  • I hear what you're saying and I understand.

My point was I've only ever encountered 1 person using them so they're not widespread, they're not immortal, if you find an opponent with Spartans, sit down, grab a spoon and dig in.. accept they're going to win on damages in game and you're winning on damages to their bank account.

My alliance has seen a lot of accounts(all same alliance) that have half a million or more spartans. I think one had 1.3 million of them.

Let me share with you a story. I was that impressed by bulk spartan armies that i aquired around 50k myself. It means i could fight large accounts that hold 5x my military score. After 2 rounds of combat my enitre army deleted. Spartans, swords, gyro, everything was a very large army. Can't say im going to buy premium units ever again.. only got to use them for about half an hour. I share this information with you so you can cry with me and cry for my bank account. That was 85 days ago and im still wearing all black to mourn

when I hear stuff like this either it's full of whales or I start to wonder about credit card fraud.

how did you lose your entire army in 2 rounds?

Problem with spartans is you have to keep buying them.

I once came across a inactive account that had about 3k Spartans, they only had enough goods for 1 pillage but I came back a 2nd time for the Spartans :P

It was a bug. I can only speculate why and the only thing that makes sense is overload. Over 100+ actions going to a single town (hot conflict zone) coupled with an usually large army. In terms of mechanics it wasn't anything out the ordinary. I'm not bothered but the fact it can happen again at any time again is the concern. Can't say I'm willing to put my faith in the ticket system either

It's just another symptom of income inequality. Also some people play mobile games like that because it's cheaper than spending 5k/week at the club so they're saving money.

Most likely due to exploit to multiply units.

    They fixed it recently:

yes so they are mandatory. The bullies will walk all over the smaller guys even worse then they are now. What was this supposed to achieve?

    Milking players for more cash?
