GET RID OF THIS ALT STUFF!

  • The one land battle we are in now is at 822 rounds.

    This number would be amazing on a single player server. Huge alliances fighting among themselves. There would be a winner and a loser, but the fun would the be process of training and fighting. Then, everybody would take weeks or months to recover, and this game wouldn't be an endless headache in our personal lives.

  • Any fight versus a large alliance is an attrition fight. Any fight in Ikariam, in general, is an attrition fight. Max battlefield size, plus the pace of battles, will always mean that once an alliance reaches a certain size battles can be prolonged indefinitely.

    The only way to prevent that is to increase the battlefield size or reduce the round time.

  • Yes but putting a size limit effectively means that the black market is only really effective up to X size which I don't find that appealing, plus it goes against the infinite growth that Ikariam is currently implementing. Personally, I find infinite growth a lot more compelling than finite growth, but that does mean the big accounts simply keep getting bigger.

  • Like I said, nobody likes that, but unfortunately, it seems to be the only way. Because we can't go back to one-player server, putting a size limit is the only way to stop the gold and general banks for good. Black market, under the principles of ethics, must be used only in emergencies. Alright, you can sell as much as you want, but come on, using alts to get unlimited troops? That's too much.

    If people trade up to a limit, the gold and general banks will be gone and it won't be a maintenance nightmare. Worst case scenario is using 10 alts, but I don't think they will invest such energy to play that way.

    If GOs charge a price the fountain can't provide, everything will work out in the end. The days to get ambrosia enough to pay for the extra limit should be equal or higher than the cooldown time for those who don't pay.

    The 48 hour rule or even 72 hour rule will only make things worse. By having a cooldown time of 7 days + ambrosia tax:

    - Gameforge will make profit since they claim it's the problem;

    - Players will get more troops, but not enough to take over the whole server;

    - Players won't have gold and general banks as raising tons of them will be unfeasible;

    - No amount of gold can buy more troops or cease cooldown time;

    - It will be an option everybody can have;

    - Regardless of v-mode, "good players" won't be affected;

    - It is a technological solution Badidol said they needed (coding);

    In case people want to use the black market and have endless battles, they can go to Ares server. They can even pillage gold to make things more interesting. Win-win situation here.

  • My question is why do we need to stop the gold and general banks for good?

    First, for the last time, you can't use alts to get unlimited troops. If you try to move troops through a third party, you will get flagged and it is a bannable offense. For example, if you have accounts A and B and your friend has accounts C, you can't do B -> C -> A. You will get automatically get flagged by the system as using a third party to transport resources.

    I don't believe you understand the rules of IP sharing if you think that you can use alts to get unlimited troops. Any of your IP shared accounts can't, under any circumstances, trade troops to your main account without an actionable offense.

    The ONLY way "alts" help your main account in any way is if they're illegal multis. Illegal multis are already against the rules.

    Gameforge has never claimed it's a problem. You, The Crow, and a few other people have. Gameforge's stance has always been that the black market is fine as is which is why there aren't currently any restrictions on it.

    I also don't understand why you bring up ethics. Ethics has nothing to do with this. There's nothing unethical about using the Black Market to the full extent that the game allows it.

    Finally, I don't know how you think this solves gold banks. Gold banks will still exist and it'll simply be buying wood at the highest price and then donating the wood.

  • That was an example that a legit single player can sustain thousands of generals in eternity, no multis legitimate or illegal used. I goes with out saying that it took me years to get here. And took and not invested, cause I don't use ambrosia, and I play not that much. As for the details, I didn't mention that I have fully research, so it s 25 economic future, and 40 level city halls. I indeed forgot that fully research is 64% off the cost, so actually I can sustain a lot more general points. The choice of the unit was for calculations shake. It s not unrealistic really, however here is another example, 10.000 of all max units (giants, sulfur, canons etc.) cost 1.090.000 per hour, and equals with 221.000 generals.

    As for the economy, there was a time I played a lot, and bought res for lets say 5 and sold it double the price. Plus I had my own production. I have 36 freighters which I can if I want to get to 60, easily, that s 30 million res (now more cause I fully upgraded the capacity) to trade.

    So, my point is that a single legit player can have a huge army and economy. It takes time, a lot, and play nearly daily. If ambrosia is used, all are multiplied.

  • I'm more of a guerilla fighter. I hate attrition battles but some guys seem to like it so better them than me but i mainly depend on high barracks and shipyards for my army and navy.Our gen bank saved my butt a few times and a 48 hour ban would really hurt them.

    972 rounds now. This is not my idea of fun!

  • Yeah, but this isn't a symptom of the general bank.

    This is a symptom of:

    1. The battlefield size is too small for large battles.

    2. The round time between rounds is so long that it allows easy reinforcement.

    3. Colossus exists for this exact reason, too.

    I'd prefer to not change #2 and fix it by simply making it that once there's an enormous amount of troops that the battlefield goes to much larger sizes.

    But the obvious complaint against a larger battlefield size is that it makes it harder for smaller alliances to defend so there's no silver bullet.

    Plus, if you're tired of the fight? Have the host pop Colossus.

    My larger complaint is that alts don't lead to what's happening here unless they're illegal multis, which are already illegal.

  • My question is why do we need to stop the gold and general banks for good?

    You know why. Alts aren't the problem. Badidol tried going back to one player server and the deciders did not approve. There are 26 pages on this thread telling you why.

    Look at the highscore and you will see they can. Millions of generals is practically unlimited! Not convinced? Check The Crow's post regarding the fight. 972nd round and counting!

    I don't believe you understand the rules of IP sharing if you think that you can use alts to get unlimited troops. Any of your IP shared accounts can't, under any circumstances, trade troops to your main account without an actionable offense.

    I confess I don't, that's GOs' job, who are not capable to stop them because they are using VPNs and other things we already mentioned on this thread. The fact that I'm writing this thread is a sign something is wrong, uh? Besides, your mates have done the same thing. Nothing happened. There's no need to make things complicated.

    Check the highscore. Check the whole thread. Check Badidol's replies. Banning one or two members is not gonna change a thing.

    Gameforge has never claimed it's a problem.

    It did by the moment Badidol voted against this alts stuff and was denied. People started whining and thanks to them we are here. Check Badidol's reply. Check the whole thread too. Many people create alts and invest on the fountain. That's why the amount of days to get ambrosia enough to pay for the extra troops on the black market should be equal or higher than cooldown time.

    I also don't understand why you bring up ethics. Ethics has nothing to do with this. There's nothing unethical about using the Black Market to the full extent that the game allows it.

    Ethics has everything to do with this. Those who play by the rules pay the price. Under the rules of ethics, one player shouldn't hold millions of generals and billions of gold. It's impossible for a player to get that amount of gold or troops by himself. Rules are being broken. If they want to find any loopholes, it means they want to get advantage at an expense of someone else's goodwill, and that's unethical. It's a sign of bad faith. You can come up with the word "adapting", but only your moral compass will tell you what it actually means.

    However, like I said above, there's no limit of troops you can trade. If you are a supplier, for example, you could easily sell tons of troops. In order for you to follow the rules without alts' help, you should spend tons of wood and sulfur and lots of gold. Eventually, the supplier wouldn't have enough resources to keep selling troops and the war would come to an end. That's the scenario Gameforge created in the first place and that's the scenario I'm looking for.

    "Adapting" is what a lot of people have done regarding alts. Extreme problems require extreme solutions. For me, I would delete the black market for good, but I know some players like it.

    Finally, I don't know how you think this solves gold banks. Gold banks will still exist and it'll simply be buying wood at the highest price and then donating the wood.

    We've already talked about this. If you use Hades for personal gain, there's no problem. You are not harming others. Do you want to sell wood, go ahead. Trade post will be filled with offers and you will need to wait a few days to train troops. In fact, that's a strategy, which is the game's purpose. That's what's nice about this ambrosia tax: it doesn't harm anyone, not even those who are donators. It only hurts the bad guys.

    If you want more details, read again the post you quoted. No amount of gold can hack cooldown time or ambrosia tax.

    Nobody uses colossus because people fight for the sake of fighting forever. Aquila himself said that. These guys love it. Plus, when I activated colossus on Vend0n, he got pissed at me.

    I can tell your not a fighter....so much mis information it's not even funny. Your preaching to the choir here.I have held the top 3 o scores for many years of fighting. Your the guy that gets turned into a farm. Sounds like you should stick to farmville.

  • Dont waste your time with any more long winded posts because i have a hard time getting by the first 2 lines.In a server war we only care about building troops and ships and waving and resource production is shut down. War is pretty simple for those of us have that have done it for over ten years. You are talking in a build mode thing and trust me that in a server war you are not building anything but navy and army. A collosus is used by both sides when feasible. Jheeesh man stick to facebook farmville.

  • The only thing badidol said is that he wanted to go back to 1 account per 1 IP. Everything he's said about the black market is working as intended.

    Again, if you are using IP sharing, your IP share linked accounts can't interact with your main account directly. They can't sell troops to your main account, they can't send resources to your main account, etc. Any attempt at doing so automatically flags the account and is reported to the GO.

    I know this because I accidentally broke the rule once and had to clarify it with a GO. In my defense, my alliance mate sent res to account B then wanted to sell account A wood for gold. I thought since our accounts were trading that I wasn't breaking the rule, but the automated system didn't see it that way and we simply traded back.

    A 972 round fight has nothing to do with alts. It has to do with the following:

    1. The battlefield is too small for the number of troops.

    2. Rounds take 15 minutes.

    3. Colossus is not being used.

    Assuming they're defending, if they want to stop it, all they have to do is have the host pop Colossus. If they're attacking someone else, it's hard for them to complain about the round time because it's effectively self inflicted.

    Again, if they are using VPNs or any other tool besides IP sharing: they are not alt accounts; they are illegal multis. The GOs are already doing everything they can against illegal multis. If you disagree that the GOs are doing everything they can to enforce the rules, I do not know what to tell you. Changing the server type from 11 accounts / IP to 1 account / IP only makes illegal multis stronger.

    Sure, badidol objected but badidol is not all of GameForge nor does he have the final say. I honestly do not believe anything would be better on servers where 1 account per IP address was strictly enforced. Why? Because the existing problem is from people who are already breaking the rules. They're not going to suddenly respect the rules on a 1 account per IP address server. In fact, they are further incentivized to break the rules because the average player has much less power.

    Having billions of gold or millions of generals has nothing to do with ethics. I don't know why you would say that. There are clearly no provable rules being broken otherwise the accounts would be banned. If they did break the rules, they would be banned, but there's simply no proof that they are, and thus, we have to assume they are innocent until proven guilty.

    A properly setup supplier would never run out of wood, sulfur, or population because they'd sell the reasonable max they could create each day. Not only that, there's no opportunity cost to hoarding and bulk building. No one ever runs out of anything in Ikariam, either, you simply wait until you have more.

    I don't believe we'll ever see a cooldown on the Black Market so I don't know why you keep bringing it up like it's some kind of golden solution. If such a thing did exist, then we'd simply see the multiplication of general banks. The largest alliances can easily afford to do this; the smaller alliances can't, and the black market ends up being more inequitable.

    What I'm trying to point out is that any solution outside of removing the Black Market will likely make things worse for you and not better because only the biggest of the big will be able to take advantage of it. That said, I also believe that if the rules are going to be changed around the Black Market, they should be tested on a server first. Also, I'd rather see Black Market settings on a server by server basis so if you don't like the current state of the Black Market, you can opt out of it.

    Also, if someone spends ambro to buy black market troops to beat you, are you going to be satisfied with losing that way?

    I shared my battle reports against Vend0n. I don't need to lie. One account against a bully and his alts. Your own print screen proves otherwise too. They could easily activate colossus, but guess what? They did not. That's why User's argument doesn't make any sense.

  • This reply is not actually for you, it's for User. You understood the problem here, although you are in favor of other solutions. You don't need to read. You know what I think of this alt stuff and the solution I believe will fix the problem.

    Exactly, Ares server is the best server to have a black market and sell unlimited troops. That's what I proposed.

  • The only thing badidol said is that he wanted to go back to 1 account per 1 IP. Everything he's said about the black market is working as intended.

    badidol tried to go back to "one player one account" in the first soft merge a couple of years ago.

    Half the community went wild and angry, yelling "OMG you can't do that!", the other half praised the rule change and were happy like a kid being offered the biggest candy bar the world has ever seen.

    Then badidol went off on leave for a week and in that week unfortunately the powers that decide heard "well, half of the comm ain't gonna like this" and got scared of it and pulled back on the change.

    That's the moment when the problem arose. As time passed by, it became harder and harder to play this game, until many of your mates "adapted" and did the same thing.

    Again, if you are using IP sharing, your IP share linked accounts can't interact with your main account directly. They can't sell troops to your main account, they can't send resources to your main account, etc. Any attempt at doing so automatically flags the account and is reported to the GO.

    Like I said, banning two or three players is not gonna fix the problem.

    A 972 round fight has nothing to do with alts. It has to do with the following:

    1. The battlefield is too small for the number of troops.

    2. Rounds take 15 minutes.

    3. Colossus is not being used.

    1. It is small compared to the power people have to buy unlimited troops. What's bigger than infinity? Nothing!

    2. Time has nothing to do with this. In fact, because they take 15 minutes, battles end way faster, especially if you activate the forge.

    3. Colossus is not being used because they don't want to. If rounds are getting longer and longer is because they like that and there's nothing wrong as long as it doesn't harm the other players, which is not the case.

    Again, if they are using VPNs or any other tool besides IP sharing: they are not alt accounts; they are illegal multis

    Alts are doing the same because they "adapted" to their playstyle. Deciders picked their side, and unfortunately, nothing has been done so far, not even the 48 hour rule has been applied, which was suggested in the past by many players.

    Sure, badidol objected but badidol is not all of GameForge nor does he have the final say.

    He is not, but his decisions have some weight and the gavel was pounded regarding this matter. Then the deciders got scared and went back to this nonsense.

    That's why the ambrosia tax is the perfect solution. They need to fix the whole thing to stop both the bad guys and those who are willing to "adapt" to have a chance to win. Then, it will not be a matter of picking a side, it will be a matter of playing on the right server.

    Those who like to build and fight a few times a year can pick the current servers. Those who like to have endless fights can pick Ares server. They can pillage gold, wood and sulfur production can be 50% higher, why not? Town income can be the double too.

  • Yes, but that's entirely the point. Half wanted 1 account per IP, the other half didn't. The community *is not* united on this issue. I don't know why I have to keep explaining that to you when badidol said it himself.

    The reason I brought up the battlefield size is because The Crow was complaining about how long a battle could take. The reality is battles take a long time because of those three factors.

    1. Doesn't matter. The bigger the battlefield, the more troops are destroyed, and the faster rounds are concluded. For better or for worse. As we have the God's Shrine and 21 towns now, large accounts can get even larger, not smaller.

    2. Time has everything to do with it. The more time between rounds the easier it is for an alliance to reinforce. Nobody sends all their troops at once and simply lets a large battle happen. They wave troops in and out.

    3. Yes, but I was pointing out if you wanted a long battle to end and you're the defender, you Colossus. If you aren't the defender and you're tired of the long battle, you withdraw. That's it.

    Using VPNs is not adapting. Using VPNs is creating illegal multis and that is cheating and against the rules. I don't know why you can't understand that: IP Sharing = legal. VPNs and owning multiple IPs = illegal and cheating. Reducing the servers to 1 account per IP does nothing to stop illegal multis because these players are already breaking the rules. They aren't going to suddenly start obeying the rules because it's 1 account per IP.

    badidol does not have nearly as much weight as you're giving him because the decision was overturned against him. I highly doubt it would've gone through because I'm sure that ip sharing = up to 11x more ambrosia purchases.

    How does the ambrosia tax do anything to stop illegal multis? I swear you don't read what I write.

    The solution is to have different servers with different interpretations of the Black Market (and no, not Ares, the war server, and every other server) but multiple regular servers with different rules around the Black Market. That way the people that like general banks can play their way and the people that don't like general banks can play a different way.

    Good to know you came to the same conclusion. The community is not united and they don't need to be. If GOs can't stop them, make a special place for them, at least.

    The reason I brought up the battlefield size is because The Crow was complaining about how long a battle could take. The reality is battles take a long time because of those three factors.

    User, it is because of black market and you know it. It's not rocket science, you just need to compare the average number of rounds the old servers used to have to the current ones. Before you come up with another argument about it, make sure to know the difference between "war" and "battles". Battles are taking way longer to end because of gold and general banks.

    badidol does not have nearly as much weight as you're giving him because the decision was overturned against him. I highly doubt it would've gone through because I'm sure that ip sharing = up to 11x more ambrosia purchases.

    You don't read what I write. I've already said how. Check the thread.
