(reported) Travel Time Bug

    I've been noticing some oddities in travel times over the last couple of days and after doing a little bit of focused testing just now I've come to the conclusion that it is definitely a bug.


    I initially sent a pillage to a town which stated 44m travel time and was actually 33m travel - fine, we already know there is a descrepency between the displayed travel time and actual travel whilst the Festival of Worlds & Bonuses are active. However, upon seeing the 33m travel time I thought "that's way too high" and recalled before sending the exact same attack again (same units, same ships, same origin, same destination). Upon doing so the new actual travel time was 27 minutes. I did this a few more times and managed to decrease the actual travel time more and more each time, eventually reaching a total travel time of 9 minutes. So by recalling and resending a few times (which took me maybe a minute real time) I managed to shave 24 minutes from the original actual travel time.


    All sounds great, except during the festival of worlds the actual travel time to the target should have been even lower than the 9 minutes I ended up with.

    What I'm mentioning above is something different to the issue you raised. Yes, the estimated and actual travel are different as you stated but there is an additional issue where the actual travel time (once sent) can differ very significantly. I.e. You activation poseidon and send to a town for the first time - it takes 21 minutes for the actual travel (not estimated), then you try again from the same origin and to the same destination, and it takes only 9 minutes. (again, actual travel). As I said in the original post, I managed to reduce the time from 33 minutes to 9 minutes just by doing send -> recall, repeated several times.

  • The issue goes beyond just the travel times being inconsistent from pillage to pillage. The images below show the same pillage as viewed from the trade ship screen and the military advisor showing different travel times. Note the time stamps: the trade ship screen was taken roughly 30 seconds before the military advisor, but shows a shorter travel time. Notice also that the arrival time for the ships in the military advisor does NOT match the current time plus the displayed travel time.


    The battle happened at the time expected from the trade ship screen, but the loading times for the pillages were different (off by roughly 1 minute), so the loading should end at the same time.


    Related, but sometimes to load 3 ships worth of troops to go pillage from a level 46 trading port shows a loading time of over 1 minute in the military advisor, and if the load is canceled, then shows a travel time of over 1 minute back to the same island.

    Maybe I wasn't clear enough in that thread but what you have described here is exactly the issue I that I observed at that time. I've been able to replicate exactly what you have done here as well on Kreon. What sucks is that the pillage can be 6 minutes to arrive but on the return journey, it can go up to 18 minutes for example. Sucks when I'm trying to pillage as efficiently as possible ^^

  • I may have just figured out what causes this bug to occur (the one I described in OP).


    I just moved my troops between two towns on the same island (across land), accepted the currently longer travel times involved in doing so.


    The pillage I sent right after moving those units had the travel time bug, same thing... Recall and resend reducing the actual travel time by a few minutes each time after initially stating it would take 24 minutes I got it down to 12 minutes, still not as quick as the 7 or so minutes I would expect to see (which I was getting from the other town on the island to the same target).


    I am pretty certain I did exactly the same thing the first time I noticed this - moving units across land before sending the pillage.


    So currently the way to mitigate this (I think) is to just avoid moving units over land - if you want to transfer between two towns on the same island then send via. boat to another island, and then back into the town you want - bit silly but I think this will work to at least avoid the bug until fixed.


    I'd be curious to see if others notice the same, I haven't noticed these issues after stationing units across islands.
